Student Services for UCOL Majors

Although most of the day-to-day questions and issues you encounter are handled by the faculty teaching your courses, your advisor, or staff in offices like the Registrar, Financial Aid, or Housing, the chances are that at some point during your time at UNC Charlotte you’ll run into an issue that needs to be addressed by the Dean of your college.  In your case, as students in the UCOL major, that college is University College.  Some examples of the kinds of matters that might bring you to the dean’s office include:

  • Petitions to register for a course overload
  • Petitions to take courses at other institutions of higher education or to grant transfer credit for classes taken elsewhere
  • Petitions for exceptions from stated deadlines concerning course registration or withdrawal
  • Petitions for exceptions to program requirements in general education
  • Problems with academic progress or standing

What you can expect from this office when such matters arise is:

  • a timely and accurate response to your issue that considers both your circumstances and university and college policies
  • a response that is fair to both you and to the student body and faculty as a whole
  • a response that has your best interests at heart

Your responsibilities in these circumstances include:

  • Knowing and understanding the implications of published policies and deadlines
  • Submitting any necessary forms and supporting documentation in a timely manner and in a way that makes your circumstances and needs clear

You will find in our FAQs the policies that University College uses in a number of the most common instances that arise in the area of student services.  This list is not exhaustive, but if your circumstances are the same as those described, you can be pretty certain of the response unless there are truly exceptional circumstances.
